Annette Blanco was stunned when she walked into the media center of Loxahatchee Groves Elementary School and found Superintendent Dr. Donald Fennoy II and School Board Member Marcia Andrews awaiting with flowers. They were there to name her the School District’s School-Related Employee of the Year.

As the principal’s secretary, not much happens on the campus without Blanco’s knowledge, but Principal Richard Myerson, along with several staff members and Blanco’s two daughters kept the surprise under wraps until the announcement was made Tuesday.

Ms. Blanco has served the School District for 12 years and has been at the school for the past four.

Blanco understands the needs of the Title I school and does anything she can to show empathy to the students. She has organized Adopt-a-Family drives, holiday meal distributions, planned luncheons and events and participated in school fundraisers. She is also known for her performances at every faculty talent show.

Customer service is her expertise, and Blanco is willing to drop everything to help parents, staff and community members with a smile and assist in any way she can.

Myerson says that Blanco is often the first on campus and the last to leave; she is also known for slipping encouraging notes and treats in staff mailboxes.

Blanco will now serve as the District’s nominee for the honor of statewide School-Related Employee of the Year.
